Wilson Missionary House
The Wilson Missionary House is Gwangju's oldest surviving Western-style building, perched on the southwestern slope of Yangnim Hill with commanding views across the city. Built as the residence of R. M. Wilson (우일선), second director of Jejung Hospital, it dates from his arrival in Gwangju in February 1908. Wilson came with his family of seven children and left an enduring mark on the city's early modern architecture.

이장우가옥 (Casa Ijangwu)
Ijangwu House is an elegant hanok mansion from the late Joseon period, exemplifying the refined domestic architecture of Korea's upper classes during the modern era. Designated Gwangju Municipal Folklore Resource Number 1 in 1989, it's distinguished by its thoughtful spatial design and natural setting. The house has become a favoured filming location, attracting visitors interested in traditional Korean architecture and period properties.

Choe Seunghyo House
Casa Choe Seunghyo is a traditional Korean hanok dwelling located at 29-4 Yangchon alley in Nam-gu, Gwangju. Designated as a cultural and folk heritage site, it forms part of the historic Yanglimdong district and offers visitors an authentic glimpse into historic Korean residential architecture and domestic life. The property preserves traditional construction methods and spatial arrangements characteristic of 20th-century Korean homes.

Han Hee-won Art Gallery
Han Hee-won Art Gallery occupies a traditional Korean hanok house tucked away on Yangchon-gil alley in Gwangju, nestled between the Yi Jang-u House and the Choe Seunghyo House. This modest gallery welcomes visitors seeking a quieter experience, offering paintings and a chance for reflection through art. A cup of tea complements your visit, creating a serene setting for contemplation.

Penguin Village
Penguin Village is a narrow alley tucked behind Yangnim-dong Community Centre. The area takes its name from the distinctive waddling gait of its elderly residents, who move rather like penguins. What makes it unusual is its open-air display of everyday life from the 1970s and 1980s—locals have collected discarded objects and arranged them along the alley's walls, creating a fascinating snapshot of daily life from decades past. Well worth a visit for a glimpse of authentic local culture and nostalgia.

Memorial Josim-dang Jo A-ra
The Josim-dang Jo A-ra Memorial Museum in Gwangju honours Jo A-ra, known as 'the mother of Gwangju', and her contributions to Christian activism, women's rights and democratisation efforts. Opened in 2015 in the Yanglimdong district, the museum preserves and displays personal belongings, photographs and audiovisual materials documenting her life from childhood through to old age. It provides insight into her significant role in advancing women's welfare in the region.

Memorial Avison
The Avison Memorial is a significant stop on the Yangnimdong historical trail, honouring Gordon Avison (1891-1967), a Canadian-American agricultural expert who devoted his life to supporting rural Korean communities devastated by Japanese imperialism. Across from the memorial stands Yangnim Church, notable for its distinctive pink-tiled roof. What to see here includes the memorial itself and the surrounding historic district, which documents this important period of Korean and international cooperation.

Jeong Yul-seong Street Exhibition Hall
The Jeong Yul-seong Street Exhibition Hall is an open-air gallery running along the exterior wall of the Yangnim Humansia 2cha residential complex on Jeong Yul-seong-ro in Gwangju. It begins at the musician's bust positioned at the entrance to Pureun-gil Park. The outdoor exhibition space allows any passer-by to visit and learn about the life and work of this celebrated composer without entering a building. The layout makes it accessible and convenient for casual visitors exploring the area.

10 Years Later Ground
10 Years Later Ground is a multifunctional cultural space in Gwangju, located at 1 Yangchon-gil in the Yangnimdong district. Housed in a former kindergarten building, it serves as a venue for reflection on the present and future. The centre brings together educational programmes, community activities, publishing, a café and cultural events under one roof. What to see here includes exhibitions, workshops and exhibitions centred on forward-thinking themes.
