Democratic Exchange and Peace Centre / Former Jeollanam-do Provincial Office

The Democratic Peace Exchange Centre is one of five major institutes within the Asia Culture Centre and occupies the historic buildings of the former Jeollanam-do Provincial Office. These structures have been preserved above ground as a testament to the May 18 Democratic Uprising of 1980. Unlike the rest of the complex, where new facilities are built underground, these historic buildings remain at street level, serving as a distinctive element within the broader site.

The Children's Experience Pavilion occupies 4,822.55 m² on the basement level of the ACC's Children's Culture Centre in Gwangju. Designed around the theme 'Cultural Journey Across Asia', it guides visitors through four consecutive themed zones exploring nature, civilisation and artistic expression. Rather than traditional instruction, the pavilion prioritises hands-on learning and creative engagement, allowing children to discover Asia's cultural diversity through play, experimentation and making. What to see here includes interactive installations that encourage imaginative exploration across the continent's varied heritage.

This configuration allows children to engage closely with what to see on stage.
