Planta Baja – Fauna Irlandesa
The ground floor is devoted entirely to Irish wildlife, housing a collection of skeletons, skulls and taxidermied specimens representative of the country's fauna. What to see includes mammals, birds, fish, insects and octopuses—some over a century old. This natural history collection provides a compelling overview of Ireland's native species and their physical characteristics through carefully preserved specimens.

Upper Floor – World Fauna
The museum's upper floor showcases fauna from across the globe, displaying an extensive collection of taxidermied specimens. You'll find large mammals including giraffes, buffalo and polar bears, alongside primates, rodents and bats. The exhibition also features migratory birds that collided with Irish lighthouses, offering a sobering glimpse into the hazards these creatures face during their journeys. A remarkable assembly of natural history rarely seen under one roof.

Blaschka Collection
The Blaschka Collection is housed on the upper floor of the National Museum of Natural History in Dublin. It comprises intricately hand-crafted glass models of marine life, displayed alongside trophies of buffalo and other antelope species. This is one of the museum's most distinctive holdings, prized for the exceptional artisanal craftsmanship and scientific precision of its specimens. What to see here represents a unique blend of naturalistic artistry and historical collecting practices.

Whale Skeletons
Two impressive whale skeletons hang from the ceiling of this Victorian museum, making for one of its most striking features. One belonged to a whale discovered in Bantry Bay in 1862, whilst the other came from a specimen that washed ashore at Inishcrone in County Sligo in 1893. These remarkable displays offer a fascinating glimpse into Ireland's maritime past and the scale of these magnificent creatures.

Cabinet of Curiosities
The Wonder Cabinet is a purpose-built space within the museum, modelled on Victorian-era curiosity cabinets, where you can examine genuine specimens and replicas exploring the themes of predators and prey. It won a gold award from the Institut of Creative Advertising and Design (ICAD) for graphic design. The thoughtfully designed space doubles as a flexible venue for educational events and workshops, complete with projectors, screens and microscopes.
