Medieval Crypt
The medieval crypt at Christ Church is Dublin's oldest surviving structure in the city centre and Ireland's largest crypt, running the full length of the cathedral above. Rows of stone pillars and arches support the entire weight of the building, and the original rubble stonework and mortar remain exposed without any later covering. What to see here includes these remarkable Romanesque features dating back centuries.

Strongbow's Tomb
Strongbow's tomb sits roughly a third of the way down the right aisle of the nave, nestled between two pillars and surrounded by chairs. It marks the reputed final resting place of Richard de Clare, 2nd Earl of Pembroke, the Norman knight who played a decisive role in the Norman conquest of Ireland. Whilst the sarcophagus itself commands visual attention, the history behind it proves far more intricate than first appearances suggest.
