Audio guide Centre of El Carme in English
In this audio guide, Emily Thompson takes you through Centre of El Carme telling the story as you walk. In your accent, no need to read signs — just let your eyes take in what's in front of you.
What you'll hear inside Centre of El Carme:
- 1Valencian Gothic Cloister
A fourteenth-century cloister with a square layout, featuring four pointed arches per side and simple ribbed vaults adorned with carved corbels bearing heraldic motifs.
- 2Renaissance Cloister
A sixteenth-century cloister featuring a spacious square layout with two tiers: the lower level displays eight arches supported by columns, whilst the upper storey comprises sixteen smaller arches.
- 3Medieval Chapel
Built at the same time as the Gothic cloister, this chapel is one of the oldest structures within the complex.
- 4New Church
A single-nave church with chapels set between buttresses, begun in the Gothic style and completed with Renaissance and Baroque elements.
- 5Chapel of the Third Order
A neoclassical chapel built as a new construction next to the entrance of the convent church, exemplifying neoclassical sensibility within the complex.
- 6Sala Ferreres
A rectangular wing designed in 1924 by Luis Ferreres Soler for museum use, surrounded by smaller galleries.
- 7Sala Goerlich
A room designed by Javier Goerlich to connect the new Ferreres Hall with the historic convent building.
- 8Space of Tales
A permanent space dedicated to early childhood, designed for children aged 0 to 3 years, offering cultural activities tailored for the youngest visitors.
- 9Bell Tower
A tower positioned on the left side of the façade, connected to the church interior through a trapezoidal passage that was formerly part of the Chapel of Saint Elias.
- 10Archaeological Remains of the Muslim Quarter
Remains of a Muslim street dating from the 11th to 13th centuries, featuring exposed sewage channels discovered in 1994, situated next to the Renaissance cloister.
