The barrel vault at Porta Marina was added later to unite two separate passageways under a single roof: one for pedestrians and a wider one for carts and pack animals.

To the left of the Porta Marina entrance stands a stone bench bearing traces of mural painting.

Samnite Wall Remains
Near the Porta Marina, you'll find the visible remains of Pompeya's original Samnite wall, dating back to around the 6th century BC.

Paved Access Ramp
The paved access ramp at Pompeii precedes the Porta Marina, constructed from large stone slabs on a steep gradient.
