About this place
Pisa's second most important piazza, built on the site of the ancient Roman Forum and a hub of medieval power. Giorgio Vasari redesigned it in 1558 at the behest of Cosimo I de' Medici. The square features the Palazzo della Carovana, the Chiesa di Santo Stefano dei Cavalieri, the Palazzo dell'Orologio, and a statue of Cosimo I. What to see here includes fine Renaissance architecture and fascinating layers of Pisan history from Roman times through the medieval period.
