About this place
An equestrian statue of Grand Duke Cosimo I de' Medici by sculptor Pietro Francavilla, completed in 1596. Cosimo founded the Order of the Knights of Saint Stephen, and the bronze statue dominates the centre of Piazza dei Cavalieri. The sculpture remains one of Pisa's most recognisable Renaissance monuments, showcasing Francavilla's masterful depiction of the duke on horseback.
