Campanile with Inscription of Diotisalvi
The campanile of the Chiesa del Santo Sepolcro is a rectangular bell tower in Pisan Romanesque style, attached to the northern side of the main church building. At its base, a marble plaque is set into the external wall bearing an inscription that credits Diotisalvi as the architect of the work. The sepulchral stone of Maria Mancini Colonna is one of the most notable pieces within the Chiesa del Santo Sepolcro. This funerary monument stands as a significant historical artefact, reflecting the prominence of this aristocratic figure during her lifetime.
Sacred Well of Santa Ubaldesca
Santa Ubaldesca's sacred well sits inside the church, just to the right of the main entrance, protected behind a metal grille. This devotional feature is closely linked to the saint herself, whose memory is honoured within the same building. Visitors can pay their respects at this modest but historically significant site whilst exploring the church.
Octagonal Interior Ambulatory
The inner octagonal ambulatory circles the church's central core, running between eight pentagonal pillars and the outer stone wall. Currently topped with a wooden ceiling, this arrangement stems from extensive 19th-century restoration work that removed the baroque vaults that had been added in earlier periods. Visitors can walk this distinctive octagonal passage to appreciate the architectural layers of Pisa's cathedral complex.
Madonna and Child (15th-century panel)
This 15th-century tempera panel painting of the Madonna and Child is housed in the Chiesa del Santo Sepolcro in Pisa. Attributed to the circle of Florentine painter Benozzo Gozzoli, the work exemplifies Tuscan artistic tradition of the Quattrocento. The painting remains a significant example of Renaissance devotional art, reflecting the refined technique and spiritual sensibility characteristic of Florence's most accomplished painters during this period.
