Edificio de la Secesión de Viena, diseñado por Joseph Maria Olbrich (1897-1898), es un ícono del Modernismo vienés, construido como sede para el grupo de artistas de la Secesión vienesa liderado por Klimt para exhibir arte nuevo y romper con la tradición. Su característica más famosa es su cúpula dorada de "hojas de laurel" (la Blattwerk-Kuppel), simbolizando libertad y arte, y en su interior destaca la sala principal con luz cenital (el primer "cubo blanco") y el Friso de Beethoven de Gustav Klimt en el sótano.

Es un espacio de exhibición para artistas vanguardistas, símbolo del movimiento artístico "Secesión Vienesa", ( Gustav Klimt) Tiene una inscripción en la puerta: "A cada tiempo su arte, a cada arte su libertad". Lo corona una cúpula de hojas de laurel doradas ("la col de oro")
