Iglesia de San Román. Construida sobre iglesia romana, posteriormente visigoda hasta llegar a la construcción del Siglo S.XIII. Las obras de orfebrería goda son increíbles, maravillosas. Como crítica constructiva, protegería las lápidas del suelo con una superficie de cristal para poder disfrutarlas y protegerlas. En mi opinión el museo debiera ser algo más caro.
Está instalado en la iglesia de San Román, del siglo XIII. En la cabecera se conserva el retablo. El resto es exposición de materiales arqueológicos visigodos hallados en la provincia. Funciona desde 1971. En 2014 se emprendió una renovación para integrar los elementos arquitectónicos de la iglesia con los del museo. También se pueden ver paneles explicativos de la cultura visigoda en la península. Interesante. La entrada es gratuita.
La iglesia de San Román de la ciudad de Toledo se construyó en estilo mudéjar en el siglo XIII en el lugar donde antes hubo una basílica visigótica, conforme atestiguaría la cripta hallada bajo la capilla mayor, reaprovechada quizá como mezquita y probablemente, sobre un antiguo edificio romano. Actualmente es la sede del Museo de los Concilios y de la Cultura Visigoda. Está situada en uno de los lugares más altos y privilegiados de la ciudad, en la segunda de las doce colinas que la forman. Se tienen noticias ya de la parroquia en el siglo XII y la iglesia sería consagrada en 1221 por el arzobispo Rodrigo Ximénez de Rada. La tradición señala que en ella se coronó rey a Alfonso VIII de Castilla el 26 de agosto de 1166 por el caballero y noble Esteban Illán.[1]
