About this place
Hwaseong Fortress is an 18th-century military wall spanning 5.7 km, built between 1794 and 1796 by King Jeongjo. A UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997, it's Suwon's principal attraction and a remarkable example of Korean fortification architecture. The fortress features observation towers, gates, and bastions strategically positioned along its length. Visitors can walk sections of the wall, explore the architectural details, and visit the various defensive structures to understand the engineering and strategic planning of the period.
