Dongbuk Nodae (Northeast Crossbow Platform)
Dongbuk Nodae is a defensive archery platform positioned at a strategic corner of Hwaseong Fortress's walls, near Changnyongmun Gate. Its angular placement afforded defenders a wide field of fire, making it an effective strongpoint for protecting the fortress's northeastern section. Built as part of the 18th-century fortress complex in Suwon, this structure exemplifies the fortress's sophisticated defensive design. What to see: the platform's distinctive corner position and original stonework that reveal period military architecture.

Dongbuk Gongsimdon (Northeast Observation Tower)
Dongbuk Gongsimdon is a three-storey oval watchtower, 6.8 metres high, positioned in the north-east sector of Hwaseong Fortress. Its distinctive rounded shape, built by stacking stones in a circular formation, earned it the local nickname Soragak, evoking a spiral seashell. From this vantage point, soldiers could monitor enemy movements and launch defensive fire. What to see: the fortress's finest example of defensive architecture and panoramic views of the surrounding walls.
