Oceanarium with 360° Panoramic Tunnel
The Aquarium of San Sebastián's centrepiece is a massive oceanarium with a 360° transparent tunnel running through it. This impressive skeleton offers a tangible connection to San Sebastián's whaling heritage and remains a centrepiece of the collection.
Cantabrian Sea Aquariums
The Cantabrian Sea Aquariums form a dedicated section of the Aquarium showcasing the fauna and flora of the cold Atlantic-Cantabrian waters. Over 200 species inhabit the various tanks, which you can visit to observe marine life up close. The highlight is the vast Oceanarium—a 1,500,000-litre tank with a 360-degree panoramic tunnel allowing you to walk through and see more than 40 fish species, including 5 shark species, in their natural setting.
Tropical Aquariums (Caribbean Reef, Indo-Pacific, Tropical River)
San Sebastián Aquarium houses three tropical aquaria that recreate distinct ecosystems: the Caribbean reef, the Indo-Pacific and a tropical river. Together with the main Oceanarium, these themed tanks showcase the biodiversity of the world's warmest seas and freshwater systems. The facility contains over 30 tanks in total, providing visitors with a comprehensive look at tropical marine and freshwater life.
Tactile Aquarium
The touch pool is one of the most interactive sections of the Aquarium, where visitors can handle live fish specimens directly. It's a hands-on sensory experience that complements the rest of your visit to the museum. This participatory element makes it a particularly engaging attraction for families and those keen on closer contact with marine life.
Kursaal Auditorium
The Auditorium at San Sebastián Aquarium is a multipurpose venue designed for conferences, educational activities and scientific events. It's equipped with state-of-the-art professional sound and projection systems, and features extensive glazing that overlooks the aquarium tanks below. This makes it an ideal space for both formal presentations and interactive learning experiences.
