El Castel Sant'Angelo es de esos lugares que imponen apenas lo ves. Su estructura circular lo hace diferente a todo lo demás en Roma, y desde fuera se siente más como una fortaleza que como un castillo tradicional. Me gustó mucho cómo se ve desde el puente, con el río de fondo; es una vista clásica. La fachada es sólida, fuerte, y transmite toda esa sensación de historia que carga desde la época del Imperio Romano hasta el Vaticano. Solo verlo por fuera ya vale la pena.
Monumento muy recomendable para visitar. El primer domingo de cada mes la entrada es gratuita, los demás días cuesta 16€. El día gratuito suele haber mucha gente. Si vas con niños te hacen dejar la silleta abajo debido a la cantidad de escaleras. Tiene una gran subida pero merece completamente la pena. Las vistas son espectaculares. Dispone de un pequeño museo en el interior incluido en la entrada. Arriba tiene un bar para disfrutar de las vistas. Imprescindible subir hasta la terraza superior para admirar Roma.
En el Castillo de Sant'Angelo están enterrados varios emperadores romanos y sus familias, comenzando por el propio Emperador Adriano y su esposa Vibia Sabina, para quienes fue construido originalmente como mausoleo; también se encuentran aquí Antonino Pío, Marco Aurelio, Cómodo, Septimio Severo, Geta y Caracalla, junto con sus esposas y otros miembros de sus familias, hasta Caracalla en 217 d.C.
