Nordmarka
Nordmarka is a vast forested region sprawling across 430 square kilometres immediately north of Oslo. This woodland expanse offers year-round recreational opportunities, from hiking and mountain biking to cross-country skiing in winter. Trails are generally well-marked throughout, though it's advisable to carry a map if you're planning longer excursions. The area's extensive network of paths makes it a popular retreat for locals and visitors alike seeking outdoor activities within easy reach of the city.

Østmarka
Østmarka is a forested region east of Oslo, spanning the municipalities of Oslo, Lørenskog, Rælingen, Ski and Enebakk. Bounded to the west by Oslo's urban areas and to the east by Lake Øyeren, it meets Sørmarka to the south at Lake Langen. The terrain is notably undulating throughout, built on basement rock over one billion years old. This ancient geology creates a distinctive landscape of north-south oriented ridges and valleys, making it ideal for visits featuring walking and outdoor exploration.

Bærumsmarka
Bærumsmarka is a recreational forest area in Bærum municipality, Akershus county, nestled between the Lommedalen and Sørkedalen valleys. It borders Krokskogen and Nordmarka, offering over 70 square kilometres of marked trails for hiking, horse riding and skiing. The highest point is Tjæregrashøgda at 485 metres. Ideal for outdoor pursuits within easy reach of Oslo.

Lillomarka
Lillomarka forms the northeastern section of Oslomarka, spanning Oslo and Nittedal municipalities. Bordered by Maridalen valley to the west, Gjelleråsen to the east, Groruddalen neighbourhoods to the south and the Gjøvikbanen railway line to the north, it offers woodland walking and natural scenery. The highest point is Brennberget at 441 metres above sea level, situated roughly one kilometre north of Lillomarkskapellet. Easily accessible from central Oslo, it's popular with locals for outdoor recreation.

Sørmarka
Sørmarka forms the south-eastern section of Oslomarka, spanning the municipalities of Nordre Follo, Enebakk and Indre Østfold. Though a natural extension of Østmarka geographically, it lies distinctly south-west of the provincial road Rv. 155 (Enebakkveien). The Mossevassdraget river runs through the area from north to south, whilst the region's highest point, Mjærskaukollen, reaches 300 metres above sea level. This makes it an excellent destination for walking and outdoor pursuits in the Oslo region.

Krokskogen
Krokskogen is a forested plateau covering roughly 300 km² within the wider Oslomarka region, straddling the municipalities of Hole, Ringerike, Bærum and Oslo. To the west, steep cliffs and slopes drop dramatically towards Tyrifjorden fjord, whilst Nordmarka and Bærumsmarka border it to the east, and similar escarpments overlook the lowlands of Asker and Bærum to the south. What to see includes Oslomarka's highest peaks, notably Oppkuven at 704 metres above sea level.

Vestmarka
Vestmarka is a forested and mountainous region spanning the municipalities of Asker, Bærum and Lier, forming the western section of Oslomarka. Privately owned by Løvenskiold Vækerø, this area serves as a popular recreational destination for locals and visitors alike. The terrain offers excellent opportunities for hiking, walking and outdoor pursuits throughout the year.

Kjekstadmarka
Kjekstadmarka is one of nine distinct zones within Oslomarka, positioned at the southwestern edge of this sprawling woodland area. Part of the extensive forests and natural spaces encircling Oslo, Oslomarka extends across multiple municipalities and counties, offering accessible outdoor recreation for residents and visitors seeking to escape the city.

Romeriksåsen
Romeriksåsen forms part of Oslomarka, the expansive belt of forest and hills encircling Oslo. This woodland area comprises one section of the larger arc of forested terrain that surrounds the city. Visitors will find typical features of the region: dense forest, clear lakes and well-maintained walking trails throughout. The area offers straightforward access to Oslo's natural hinterland, making it an accessible spot to visit for those wanting to escape the city centre.

Gjelleråsen
Gjelleråsen is a woodland area within Oslomarka, located northeast of Oslo across the municipalities of Nittedal and Lillestrøm in Akershus county. It borders Skedsmo to the east and Nittedal to the north, forming the eastern section of Lillomarka under current Oslomarka designations. The area is crossed by numerous historic routes alongside two major modern roads: Norwegian national road Rv4 to the north and European route E6 to the south.
