1808 Gun Batteries
The 1808 cannon batteries are military installations built during the Napoleonic Wars to defend Oslo and Akershus Fortress. Two original cannons from 1808 remain visible on Hovedøya island, standing as reminders of the fortress's defensive role during this turbulent period in history. The site offers insight into early 19th-century military architecture and Norway's strategic position during the continental conflicts.

Powder Stores (1826–1867)
The powder magazines at Hovedøya are military structures built between 1826 and 1867 on the island's highest points, constructed whilst the Norwegian armed forces occupied the site. They form part of a wider defensive complex that worked alongside the cannon batteries positioned across Hovedøya. What to see includes these distinctive fortifications, which offer insight into 19th-century military engineering. The magazines remain a notable feature of Oslo's maritime defence heritage.

The Laboratory (Victorian House)
El Laboratorio is a Victorian-era house located on the eastern side of Hovedøya island in Oslo. It was once home to Ole Herman Johannes Krag, who co-designed the renowned Krag-Jørgensen rifle. The building stands as a reminder of Norway's industrial heritage and engineering innovation during the 19th century.

Canteras históricas
Hovedøya's historic quarries comprise roughly twenty excavations scattered across the island, bearing witness to intensive diabase extraction from medieval times through to the 19th century. This stone was quarried as a vital building resource across different periods of the island's and Oslo's development. You can visit the quarries to see the evidence of this industrial heritage embedded in the island's landscape.
