Aegina Pediment Sculptures Room (Ägineten)

Aegina Pediment Sculptures Room (Ägineten)

This room houses the sculptures from the pediments of the Temple of Aphaea on Aegina, among the finest examples of Archaic Greek art in the Glyptothek. Two groups are represented, reflecting the discovery of remains from both an earlier and a later temple on the same site.

2
Archaic Room — Munich Kouros and Tenea Kouros

Archaic Room — Munich Kouros and Tenea Kouros

This room presents two of the Glyptothek's most celebrated pieces: the Munich Kouros and the Tenea Kouros, both outstanding examples of Archaic Greek sculpture from the period 700–490 BC, and exceptional witnesses to the sculptural workshops of ancient Greece.

3
Hellenistic Room — Barberini Faun

Hellenistic Room — Barberini Faun

This room is home to the Barberini Faun, a masterwork of the Hellenistic period dating from around the 3rd century BC. Standing 2.15 metres tall, the sculpture depicts a young satyr in a deep, wine-induced sleep — relaxed in pose yet remarkable in its muscular tension.

4
Roman Room — Imperial Busts

Roman Room — Imperial Busts

This room holds one of the most comprehensive and well-preserved collections of imperial portrait busts in the world, spanning Augustus to the late Empire. Highlights include likenesses of Augustus, Nero, Trajan, Hadrian, Marcus Aurelius and Septimius Severus, alongside members of their families and political circles.

5
Quadrangular Inner Courtyard

Quadrangular Inner Courtyard

The open inner courtyard forms the organising heart of the Glyptothek, around which the fourteen vaulted galleries are arranged. It serves as an open-air garden and quiet resting place for visitors, with large windows allowing natural light to flood the surrounding rooms.

6
Facade with Original Sculpture Niches

Facade with Original Sculpture Niches

The Glyptothek's outer walls feature niches housing original Greek and Roman sculptures, turning the building's exterior into an open-air gallery.
