La Catedral de Southwark cuyo nombre es formalmente Catedral y Colegiata de San Salvador y Santa María Overie. Es la iglesia matriz de la diócesis de Southwark. Ha sido un lugar de culto cristiano durante más de 1.000 años. La iglesia no fue elevada a la categoría de catedral hasta la creación de la diócesis de Southwark en 1905. Entre 1106 y 1538, fue la iglesia de un priorato agustino, Southwark Priory, dedicada en honor de la Virgen María. Tras la disolución de los monasterios, se convirtió en iglesia parroquial. La iglesia perteneció a la diócesis de Winchester hasta 1877, cuando la parroquia de San Salvador, junto con otras parroquias del sur de Londres, fue transferida a la diócesis de Rochester. El edificio actual conserva la forma básica de la estructura gótica construida entre 1220 y 1420. Aunque la nave es una reconstrucción de finales del siglo XIX.
Lugar imperdible de visitar. Recomiendo ir con tiempo, para recorrer cada metro de esta impresionante Catedral de estilo gotico. El domingo a la mañana hay un coro muy recomendable de escuchar!!!!
Es muy fácil llegar a la Catedral, seguro y es hermosa ❤️ tuve la oportunidad de conocerla por un concierto de CandleLight de los Bridgerton que hicieron ahí
