Audio guide Heian Shrine in English

In this audio guide, Emily Thompson takes you through Heian Shrine telling the story as you walk. In your accent, no need to read signs — just let your eyes take in what's in front of you.

What you'll hear inside Heian Shrine:

  • 1
    Grand Torii Ōtorii

An impressive red torii gate standing over 24 metres tall, marking the entrance to the shrine and one of the largest of its kind in Japan.

  • 2
    Daigoku-den (Throne Hall)

The main building is a full-scale replica of the imperial palace from the Heian period, featuring traditional red and green colours.

  • 3
    Great Gravel Courtyard

Expansive gravel courtyard offering striking views of the shrine's main building.

  • 4
    Central Garden and Lake

A landscape garden centred around a central lake, home to koi carp and turtles.

  • 5
    Taihei-kaku Bridge (Bridge of Peace)

A picturesque bridge spanning the central lake, appearing to float gracefully upon the water.

El edificio principal está en remodelación, pero es muy bonito de ver todo lo demás. El jardín está muy agradable para dar una caminada
