Audio guide Wawel Cathedral in English
In this audio guide, Emily Thompson takes you through Wawel Cathedral telling the story as you walk. In your accent, no need to read signs — just let your eyes take in what's in front of you.
What you'll hear inside Wawel Cathedral:
- 1Sigismund Chapel
A Renaissance chapel crowned by a gilded dome, regarded as the finest example of Renaissance architecture outside Italy.
- 2Vasa Chapel
A domed chapel built by Sigismund III Vasa, larger than the Sigismund Chapel but featuring a simpler design, adorned with black marble.
- 3Mausoleum of Saint Stanislaus
A splendid mausoleum situated in the centre of the nave, housing the silver coffin of Saint Stanislaus, patron saint of Poland, beneath a canopy of black marble.
- 4High Altar
An altar commissioned around 1650 by Bishop Piotr Gembicki, designed by Giovanni Battista Gisleni with a painting of the Crucifix by Marcin Blechowski.
- 5Holy Cross Chapel
Completed in 1492, this chapel houses the royal tomb of Casimir III the Great and is considered one of Veit Stoss's final works in Poland.
- 6Royal Crypt
Underground crypts housing the tombs of Polish kings, national heroes such as Tadeusz Kościuszko and Józef Piłsudski, and renowned poets including Adam Mickiewicz.
- 7Crypt of St Leonard
A Romanesque crypt housing remains of the city's second cathedral from the 12th century, where Pope John Paul II celebrated his first Mass as a priest.
- 8Tower of Sigismund
Tower housing the famous Sigismund Bell from 1521, one of Europe's largest bells weighing nearly 13 tonnes, accessible via a wooden staircase.

Catedral Bonita.
