Vieux Méchouar
The smallest of the Royal Palace's mechouars, built over a former fortified bridge above the Oued Fes and now one of the busiest squares in Fez el-Jdid.

Nouveau Méchouar
The largest of the complex's mechouars, this grand ceremonial square north of the Vieux Méchouar was built under Sultan Moulay Hassan I in the late 19th century.

Grand Mechouar / Mechouar Bab Bou Jat
A vast, irregular quadrilateral of some four hectares at the north-west corner of the Dar el-Makhzen, serving as the palace's main ceremonial entrance from that direction.

Bab Dekkakin
The monumental 'Gate of the Benches' links the Vieux Méchouar to the Nouveau Méchouar, and was formerly known as Bab es-Sebaa, meaning 'Gate of the Lion'.
