Almohad Ablutions Hall (Mida'a)
A freestanding Almohad ablutions building opposite the Bab al-Hufa gate, arranged around a rectangular courtyard with up to fifteen individual latrine cubicles and a sophisticated hydraulic system.
Original Mihrab
The original mihrab of Al-Qarawiyyin marks the location of the mosque's earliest qibla wall, before later extensions. The wall above it bears the oldest known founding inscription of the entire complex.
Umayyad Minarets (10th Century)
Two towers raised in 957 on the orders of Umayyad governor Ahmad ibn Abi Bakr al-Zanati, still standing today as part of a wider programme of expansion during Córdoba's period of influence over Fez.
Central Courtyard
The open sahn of Al-Qarawiyyin Mosque, glimpsed by non-Muslim visitors from the main entrance on Derb Butuil, is dominated by two Saadian pavilions directly inspired by the Alhambra in Granada.
