Audio guide Augusteum in English
In this audio guide, Emily Thompson takes you through Augusteum telling the story as you walk. In your accent, no need to read signs — just let your eyes take in what's in front of you.
What you'll hear inside Augusteum:
- 1Entrance Porticoed Courtyard
A rectangular entrance courtyard lined with columns and paved with black and white square tiles.
- 2Porticoed Pronaos
A portico with six columns situated at the far end of the courtyard, running transversely across the space.
- 3Central Hall
The main chamber where the augustal priests performed worship of the emperor.
- 4Stepped Exedra
A semicircular niche at the far end of the central hall that once housed a statue dedicated to the cult of Emperor Augustus, serving as the building's principal symbolic feature.
- 5Side Nymphaeum
Two sanctuaries dedicated to the nymphs, located on either side of the central hall at the end of the porticoed galleries flanking the courtyard.
- 6Porticoed Side Galleries
Narrow passageways flanking the exedra-tribune that allowed access to the statue without passing before it during rituals.
- 7Portico with Double Nave
Remains of a portico with lateral exedrae connected to imperial worship, which may have housed an altar for venerating Emperor Augustus.
- 8Foro Exhibition Space
The opening section of the tour showcasing archaeological finds from the Roman forum and explaining its role as the city's vital nerve centre.

Google Maps reviews of this place
Reviews posted by visitors on Google Maps.
