Audio guide Parthenon in English

In this audio guide, Emily Thompson takes you through Parthenon telling the story as you walk. In your accent, no need to read signs — just let your eyes take in what's in front of you.

What you'll hear inside Parthenon:

  • 1
    Cella (Naos)

The inner chamber of the Parthenon, which once housed the colossal gold and ivory statue of Athena Parthenos, sculpted by Phidias.

  • 2
    Opisthodomos

The Opisthodom was the inner sanctum at the rear of the Parthenon, originally housing the treasury of the Delian League.

  • 3
    East Side Metopes

The East Metopes of the Parthenon depict the Gigantomachia, the mythological battle between the Olympian gods and the Giants.

  • 4
    South Side Metopes

These metopes from the south side depict the Centauromachia, a fierce battle between the Lapithae and the Centaurs.

  • 5
    Ionic Frieze

A continuous frieze running along the outer walls of the cella, depicting the Panathenaic procession.

  • 6
    East Stoa

The eastern pediment of the Parthenon features sculptures depicting the birth of Athena, with figures of Helios and Selene positioned at the corners.

  • 7
    West Stoa

The western pediment of the Parthenon depicts the mythological contest between Athena and Poseidon for dominion over Athens.

  • 8
    Pronaos

The Pronaos is a hexastyle vestibule distinguished by unusually tall windows—a rather uncommon feature in classical Greek architecture.

Me esperaba algo mejor conservado
