Tomb of Admiral Michiel de Ruyter
One of the Nieuwe Kerk's most remarkable funerary monuments, set in the chancel and dedicated to the great Dutch naval hero who died in action against the French at Messina, Sicily, in 1676.
Great Pipe Organ
One of two pipe organs in the Nieuwe Kerk, housed on the west wall behind an ornately decorated case. Still in working order, it can be heard during concerts and services held throughout the year.
Main Nave
The Nieuwe Kerk's central vaulted nave, with stone ribbed vaulting and large stained-glass windows, currently hosts temporary exhibitions including the annual World Press Photo show, held here from April to June.
Altar
The altar of the Nieuwe Kerk stands as one of the most remarkable features within the church interior, distinguished by its intricate carved detailing and exceptional artistic character. Its presence significantly contributes to the building's historical and artistic importance.
Stained Glass Windows
The stained glass windows of the Nieuwe Kerk are magnificent expanses of coloured glass that cast chromatic light across the interior of the nave, establishing a solemn and distinctive atmosphere. They have silently witnessed centuries of history, including royal weddings and coronation ceremonies since 1814.
